Nachdem ich anfangs auf die historische Entwicklung sowie die Charakteristika der El País eingehe, gebe ich anschließend einen Überblick über die Kategorie „Leserbriefe“ im Allgemeinen und „Cartas al director“ im Speziellen. Des weiteren befasse ich mich mit den Merkmalen der Leserbriefe sowie der Gliederung nach Regionen. Behandelt werden auch die verschiedenen Berufsgruppen der Verfasser als auch die Anzahl der Leserbriefe nach Geschlecht. Den größten Teil dieser Arbeit bilden die einzelnen Themen, die den Leserbriefen zugrunde liegen – inklusive der dazugehörigen Briefe. Ein wichtiger Gegenstand, der immer wieder behandelt wird, auch weil er der Zeitung am Herzen liegt, ist die Sprache. Insbesondere das Katalanische ist Schwerpunkt vieler solcher Leserbriefe. Aber auch politische und soziale Themen stehen an oberster Stelle. Schließlich gehe ich auf die Sprache der Leserbriefe ein. Die Arbeit wird durch eine kurze Zusammenfassung des Gesamtthemas abgerundet.
