Jh., 6 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz gilt als einer der wichtigsten Naturwissenschaftler und –
philosophen des ausgehenden 17. und beginnenden 18. Jahrhunderts bzw. wird
oftmals als der Universalgelehrte schlechthin bezeichnet. Ein Autor der Wikipedia
bezeichnet ihn als „Jurist – Naturwissenschaftler – Politiker – Philosoph – Historiker –
Theologe – Diplomat". Einen Großteil seines Wirkens wurde dabei durch seine
Tätigkeit als Geheimrat des Hauses Hannover gefördert, in dessen Diensten er fast
40 Jahre lang stand. Dabei hatte er allerdings nicht nur Gönner sondern auch Feinde
in den Reihen dieses für die europäische Geschichte bedeutenden Herrscherhauses.
Genau in Leibniz Zeiten gewinnen die Hannoveraner starken politischen Einfluss
durch die Übernahme der englischen Krone basierend auf dem Act of Settlement von
1701.
Diese Hauptseminararbeit soll die Beziehung zwischen Leibniz und dem Haus
Hannover dokumentieren und insbesondere auf die Effekte eingehen, welche sein
Gesamtwerk beeinflusst haben könnten. Einen Teil wird dabei die Betrachtung des
ambivalenten Verhältnisses zwischen Leibniz und Georg Ludwig, dem späteren
König George I. von England einnehmen. Weiterhin soll auch die Beziehung zu den
drei Damen Sophie, Sophie Charlotte und Caroline inkl. der Briefwechsel zwischen
ihnen und Leibniz betrachtet werden, da diese ja als seine größten Gönner gelten. Das Haus Brunswick und seine zahlreichen Ableger (in dieser Arbeit auf den Begriff
„Hannover“ vereinfacht) gehört zu den Welfen, welches zu den ältesten
Herrscherhäusern Europas zählt. Der entsprechende Stammbaum ist dadurch
natürlich sehr umfangreich und auch für die direkte Betrachtung mit Leibniz nicht
wichtig. In der Tat wurde Leibniz damit beauftragt, die Biographie eben dieses
Hauses zu verfassen, was er durch die Komplexität der Aufgabe und wahrscheinlich
auch Unlust an dieser Tätigkeit von der Vergabe bis zu seinem Lebensende innerhalb von 31 Jahren (1685 – 1716) nicht beendete.
