Es folgt die Epoche der Konsolidierung und der Reformen - das so genannte "Goldene Zeitalter" von 1962-1975. Es wird dabei versucht, nicht nur politische und wirtschaftliche Aspekte miteinzubeziehen, sondern auch gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen zu beachten. Das Kapitel zum "Spätkádárismus" beleuchtet im Speziellen die Ursachen für den Niedergang des Regimes in den späten 70er und den 80er-Jahren, der schlussendlich zur "samtenen Revolution" von 1989 führte. In einem abschließenden Kapitel wird schließlich versucht, auf die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung Osteuropas in den 70er und 80er-Jahren einzugehen und dabei Besonderheiten herauszuarbeiten.
