Ausgangspunkt des Buches ist das aktuell diskutierte Bildungskonzept einer Bildung für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung. Eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Diskurs um dieses Konzept und Forschungsergebnissen zu bisheriger Praxis weist auf ein Problem hin: Zwar wird die Implementation und die Verbreitung des Konzepts national und international im bildungspolitischen Diskurs gefordert, zwar ist das Konzept zu einem Bestandteil der (bildungs-)wissenschaftlichen Agenda geworden. In „der Praxis" scheint das Konzept bisher jedoch - außerhalb von Modellschulen - kaum „angekommen" zu sein, Forschung hierzu steht noch weitestgehend aus. Dieses Forschungsdefizit betrifft besonders die Grundschule. Die vorliegende Arbeit setzt an dieser Stelle an und stellt grundlegend die Frage, ob Bildung für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung in Grundschulen implementiert werden kann. Dabei wird die Ebene des Subjekts „Grundschullehrkraft" fokussiert. Der organisatorisch-strukturelle Kontext Schule wird als Rahmen berücksichtigt.
Der Frage nach den Möglichkeiten einer Implementation von Bildung für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung in der Grundschule wird in diesem Buch aus der Perspektive einer Partizipation von Kindern nachgegangen.
