- welche empirischen Befunde weisen Geschlechterdifferenzen in sozialem Verhalten, Dispositionen oder Einstellungen nach?
- wenn es sie denn gibt, worauf sind sie zurückzuführen?
- haben Faktoren, wie geschlechtsspezifische Erziehung, Verinnerlichung von gesellschaftlichen Weiblichkeits- oder Männlichkeitsklischees oder sexuierte Praxen darauf einen Einfluß?
Verschiedene Ansätze feministischer Machttheorien griffen diese Fragen auf und untersuchten z.B., ob die Behauptung der Sozialforschung, dass sich männliche Verhaltensweisen von denen der Frauen unterscheiden einer empirischen Untersuchung standhalten würde, oder z.B. inwieweit alltagsweltliche Vorurteile in soziologische Hypothesen unüberprüft einfließen.
Auch wenn die Gewichtung der feministischen Theorien sehr unterschiedlich ist, gibt es doch einen Konsens, nämlich die Ablehnung der Naturalisierung von Geschlechterdifferenzen, d.h. nicht das Geschlecht mit dem wir geboren werden bestimmt unser Schicksal, sondern es sind die Erziehung und die kulturelle Einflußnahme durch die Frauen ihre Positionierung in der Gesellschaft erfahren.
In fast allen Gesellschaften ist das Geschlechterverhältnis von der Dominanz der Männer geprägt. Diese Dominanz führte dazu, dass Frauen von gesellschaftlicher Macht und öffentlicher Entscheidungsbefugnis ausgeschlossen wurden.
Immer wieder gab es Forscher wie Talcott Parson, der in den USA die Rollentheorie entwickelte, die besagt, dass der Mensch als soziales Wesen Normen und Regeln verinnerlicht, die an spezifische gesellschaftliche Funktionen geknüpft sind und somit eine Zweckmäßigkeit erfüllen. Für die Feministinnen stellte sich hier die Frage, ob eine solche Zwangsverpflichtung mit den Bedürfnissen von Menschen übereinstimmen kann, insbesondere da Frauen immer eingeschränkte und einseitige Rollen zugeschrieben und somit die Geschlechterhierarchie aufrecht erhalten wurde.
