In ihrer grundlegenden Studie legt Sophie Wennerscheid dar, inwiefern von Trier mit dieser Szene die Kraft der Imagination beschwört und damit an die Literatur der skandinavischen Moderne anschließt, welche den Zusammenhang von Phantasma, Kraft und Dunkelheit intensiv erforscht und poetisch produktiv gemacht hat. Die Arbeit zeigt, wie bis in die zweite Hälfte des 19.
