Der Frankfurter Wachensturm vom 3. April 1833 reiht sich in die liberalen Aufstände der 30er Jahre nahtlos ein. Er stellt neben dem Hambacher Fest einen weiteren Höhepunkt des radikal-liberalen Protestes dar. Doch im Unterschied zu Hambach lief er nicht gewaltfrei ab und wurde hauptsächlich von den radikalen Parteigängern innerhalb des Liberalismus getragen. Die Reaktion der restaurativen Mächte war folglich härter und allumfassender.

Diese Arbeit soll den Ursachen des Scheiterns des Frankfurter Attentats auf den Grund gehen. Mit welchen Mitteln antwortete die Reaktion auf diese Tat? Und in wieweit war der Preß- und Vaterlandsverein und weitere Gruppen und Personen in den Frankfurter Putsch verwickelt? Der Autor Kassandrus betrachtet die Ereignisse des 3. April aus einer höchst verschwörerischen Perspektive und wirft viele Fragen auf. Auch darauf soll im Folgenden eingegangen werden.

Es existieren nur wenige Quellen, die auf den Frankfurter Wachensturm direkt Bezug nehmen und den näheren Ablauf beschreiben, was nicht verwundert, wenn man sich vor Augen hält, dass es sich um eine Verschwörung im kleineren Kreise handelte. Dagegen gibt es ausreichende Quellen zu den Repressions- und Restaurationsmaßnahmen der Reaktion nach dem Frankfurter Attentat. Abgesehen von den Quellen gibt es bis heute noch kein umfassendes Werk, das sich ausschließlich mit dem Frankfurter Wachensturm beschäftigt, so dass dieses Thema häufiger nur zwischen Hambacher Fest und Märzrevolution Erwähnung findet. Neben Huber, der im verfassungsgeschichtlichen Kontext schreibt, und Förster, die den Bezug zum Preß- und Vaterlandsverein bearbeitet, war besonders Kassandrus Abhandlung interessant für diese Arbeit. Die höchste Dichte an Schriftwerk zum Thema lässt sich Anfang der 80er Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts finden. Ferner gibt es Schriften aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, die aber einer feineren Lesefilterung bedürfen.
